The legendary James Dean, star of East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant, went to Fairmount High School in Fairmount, Indiana. The 1948 yearbook contains not one but two signatures by Dean. The first signature “Jim Dean” is scrawled right on his basketball picture. The second signature is “Jim Dean” followed by “Rack” on the “autograph page”. Rack was Dean’s nickname in high school. There are multiple photos of Dean, including one of a performance his senior year as “The Monster” (aka Frankenstein) in Goon With the Wind. It is a fascinating glimpse at one of Hollywood’s and Indiana’s brightest stars before he lost his life in a tragic car accident on September 30, 1955 at the age of 24.

Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was a world-reknown illustrator and painter. Known for his three-dimensional and saturated imagery, his work graced the covers of many popular magazines, including Colliers and Life. The color Parrish blue is named in his honor. Norman Rockwell once said, "I’m an illustrator. Maxfield Parrish was a painter-illustrator. He was in the Golden Age of Illustration. When I was in art school I admired him. He was one of my gods."
